HISTORY
Vodice was first time mentioned in 1402. in records about builting St. Cross Church. In 1402. duke Pascal de Restis made a decision of collection 1/10 of income of field products, for Sibenik`s Cathedral. Today`s area of Vodice was inhabitated since Ancient history. It was called Araus. In 1412. Vodice gets under Venetian rule. Number of inhabitants was increasing during Venetian-Turkish wars, when inhabitants were running away to the coast. In 16th century town walls were built. It was easier to control entrances and to protect town. In 1979. Vodice got under Austrian rule and in 19th century shortly under French rule. After French rule it got again under Austrian rule. In 1891. Vodice became independent municipality. Archeological foundings show that through this area important Roman trade road was passing. There was found Roman enclose, natural rain water collection which had been giving drinking water to inhabitants. Vodice was exporting drinking water till the end of the 19th century. Area of Vodice is rich with water and fertile land. There are kept draw wells and walls which were dividing one owner`s land from another`s, cottages... In the battle with Turks, Davl Dot`s trading ship helped Vodice to struggle Turks and Turk`s forces were bisected. When Turks were defeated by Vienna, by signing Karlovac peace, peace was brought to area of Vodice. In the center of Vodice there is a Coric`s tower, built in 1646. It was built by family Fondra from Sibenik. In 1746. new parish Church was built, by architect Ivan Skoko. Vodice has around 10 000 inhabitants that are directed to agriculture, fishing and tourism. There are fertile fields of ardouses: Mrdakovica, Rakitnica, Pisca, Okit and Kamena.
